A formatting aid, not a final authority
CiteLab helps format references from the information you provide. You remain responsible for checking source metadata, assignment instructions, journal requirements, and the final accuracy of your work.
1. Acceptance of these terms
By accessing or using citation-generator.app, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the service. These terms apply to the website, citation generator, bibliography tools, and related content provided by CiteLab.
2. The service
CiteLab provides a browser-based tool for formatting citations and bibliography entries. Features may include live previews, copying, collecting, and downloading references. The service is currently offered without an account and may be changed, limited, or discontinued.
CiteLab is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the American Chemical Society or any journal, university, publisher, or citation database unless expressly stated.
3. Accuracy and citation requirements
Citation output depends on the information you enter. Missing, incorrect, or ambiguous metadata can produce an incomplete or inaccurate reference. Citation rules can also vary by instructor, institution, journal, document type, and edition of a style guide.
You must compare generated references with the original sources and the instructions that apply to your work. CiteLab does not provide academic, editorial, legal, or professional advice, and generated output should not be treated as a substitute for authoritative requirements.
4. Your responsibilities
You are responsible for your use of the service and for the content you enter, copy, or download. You must have the right to use that content and must comply with applicable laws, institutional policies, and academic-integrity rules.
- Verify authors, titles, dates, identifiers, and publication details.
- Follow the final instructions of your instructor or target publication.
- Use citations to attribute sources honestly and avoid plagiarism.
- Keep your own backup of any bibliography you need to preserve.
5. Acceptable use
You may use the service for lawful personal, educational, research, and professional purposes. You may not interfere with the service, attempt unauthorized access, bypass security or rate limits, introduce malicious code, scrape the service at a harmful scale, or use it to violate another person’s rights.
6. Intellectual property
The CiteLab interface, branding, original text, design, and software are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Subject to these terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, revocable right to use the service for its intended purpose.
You retain any rights you have in the source information you enter. You may use and edit the citations and bibliography files generated from your information. Third-party names, style guides, publications, and trademarks remain the property of their respective owners.
7. Third-party services and links
The website may link to third-party guides, publishers, and resources or rely on third-party infrastructure. We do not control third-party content, availability, security, or privacy practices. A link does not imply endorsement, and you use third-party services under their own terms.
8. Availability and changes
We aim to keep CiteLab useful and available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access or preservation of in-browser bibliography data. We may update formatting logic, correct errors, add or remove source types, suspend access, or discontinue features at any time.
9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or uninterrupted operation.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, CiteLab and its operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive losses, or for lost work, grades, submissions, opportunities, data, or profits arising from use of or inability to use the service. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
10. Changes, severability, and contact
We may revise these terms as the service changes. The effective date identifies the current version. Continued use after updated terms become effective means you accept the revised terms. If any provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply.
Questions about these terms can be sent to support@citation-generator.app.
