Preserve author order and include the article title. A standard journal abbreviation may be required; verify it rather than inventing one. Use either an inclusive page range or the published article number, then add the article DOI when available.

Cite a whole book when the argument or information comes from the work as a whole. Include an edition after the title when it is not the first. Publisher location policies vary across versions and destinations, so follow the pattern required for your submission.

Use the individual page rather than a search-result URL. A responsible organization can serve as author when no person is credited. Do not turn a footer copyright year into a publication date or add an access date unless the applicable guidance requests one.

Chapter Author, A. A. Chapter title. In Book Title; Editor, E. E., Ed.; Publisher: Place, 2026; pp 20−38.

A chapter reference begins with the chapter author and title, not the book editor. The word “In” introduces the containing book. Add editors, publisher details, year, and the chapter page span required by the source and your instructions.

Label the repository and keep the preprint identifier. If a peer-reviewed version now exists and is the work you used, cite that version instead. Never describe a preprint as a published journal article simply because it has a DOI.

Research Group. Spectroscopic Data for Catalyst Screening; Data Repository, 2026. DOI: 10.1234/example.dataset

Identify the dataset itself, not only the article that discusses it. Include the creator, dataset title, repository, year, version when relevant, and a persistent identifier. This illustrative record shows field placement and must be replaced with real metadata.

A numerical reference list follows first citation order rather than source type or alphabet. When a source appears again in the paper, point back to its existing number instead of adding the same entry twice.
